Here, Today: First Nations Short Films + Conversations

Here, Today: First Nations Short Films + Conversations celebrates the creativity and ecology of First Nations filmmaking.

Held on Jinibara Country at Maleny Community Centre and in partnership with the Maleny Film Society, Here, Today begins with a screening of the critically acclaimed Warburdar Bununu; Water Shield, where a young leader is devastated when Borroloola Town Camps receive water contamination notices only to rediscover hope in the healing power of culture.

We finish our evening with a selection of Queensland-made First Nations shorts and a panel conversation and Q&A with with Warburdar Bununu: Water Shield director Jason De Santolo, local filmmaker John Harvey (Water, Spear, Out of Range), film makers Chantelle Murray (My Name is Mudju, Shed) and Dean Gibson (Welcome To Country, Wik vs Queensland) and facilitated by Horizon Festival’s Curator, First Nations Programming Lydia Fairhall, for a deep dive into the creativity and ecology behind the films.
