Rock Eisteddfod Dance Classes

STILL ON!

Rock Eisteddfod Dance Classes

26 years ago Neridah Waters auditioned for her school Rock Eisteddfod and got rejected. To this day she carries the bitterness in her polyester puffed sleeves. She’s channelled her angst into Common People Dance Project, creating her own Rock Eisteddfod teams that are open to anyone and everyone.

After attaining cult-status in Brisbane, Neridah’s bringing her famous dance competition to the Sunshine Coast for the very first time. We’ve teamed up with Brisbane Festival and HOTA (Gold Coast) to run an epic dance battle for the common people of South East Queensland.

We’re forming two Sunshine Coast teams to battle it out at a Regional Competition during Horizon Festival 2021. A Sunshine Coast rep team will then head to Brisbane Festival for the ‘Nationals’, dancing off against the Gold Coast and Brisbane metro teams.

It’s going to be awesome.
We’ll meet once a week for two terms.
There’ll be half time oranges.
There’ll be dress ups.

Grab your crew, bring your mum, or come along solo.

Frequently Asked Questions

I’ve never danced before. Is this class for me?
Yes! The Common People Dance Eisteddfod is for everyone and anyone. The event is for ALL ages and ALL abilities, with no dance experience necessary. In the past we’ve attracted whole families, people who have never danced before, ex-professional dancers, pregnant women, seniors, people with disabilities, non-English speaking students, a security guard and his dog, and really anyone who just wants to learn fun dance choreography with a group of people and not feel self-conscious. If you’re still unsure, we invite you to try-before-you-buy - come along to the first class on Wed 21 Apr to get a feel for the class. This will be free, but bookings are still required thanks to Covid.

What kind of dance will we learn?
We draw on a variety of dance styles, teaching choreographic moves to the best songs ever. It’s all about having fun. Here’s a taste of what’s in store.

Can I bring my children to the classes?
Absolutely! We encourage family participation and kids under 12 are free.

Do I have to attend all classes to be involved in the performance?
We will learn the dance routine over two terms. Term 1 runs from Wed 21 Apr – Wed 23 June. Term 2 will run from Wed 14 Jul – Wed 15 Sep at a cost of $150 including your custom-made costume for the Horizon Festival and Brisbane Festival performances. Term 1 tickets are available now and Term 2 tickets will go on sale in May.

What dates are the Horizon Festival and Brisbane Festival performances?
The performance and competition  during Horizon Festival will take place on Sat 4 Sep at 6pm. The Brisbane Festival event will take place on Sun 19 Sep.

I want to take part but can’t commit to a full term payment up-front.
