Itamar Freed (America/Israel) and Courtney Scheu (Australia) are collaborative interdisciplinary artists who split their time between the Sunshine Coast, London, Tel Aviv and New York. The duo collaborate and aim to create representations of place that are a synthesis of natural landscape, history and people, transferred as a layered experience to an audience. They create work across forms of dance, sculpture, video and photography.
Their dance work has been presented through Horizon Festival Homegrown 2020, Tempo Dance Festival 2020 and Supercell Festival of Contemporary Dance in 2019 and 2020
In 2019, Scheu and Freed were artists in residence through AIRIE—Artist in Residence in Everglades within the UNESCO World Heritage Everglades National Park Florida USA. Their work was exhibited in the Airie Nest Gallery in the Ernest F Coe. Visitor’s Centre. They were recently Artists in Residence in The Crow’s Nest on Chamber’s Island, Australia through the Sunshine Coast Regional Arts Development Fund and the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland. In addition, their work has been presented in Sculpture by the Sea, Bondi Beach in 2018 Bondi Beach and in Sculpture by the Sea, Cottesloe in 2019 through the Sculpture Inside Exhibitions, and Swell, Gold Coast in 2019 as well as through the BigCi Open Day, Bilpin, in 2017.
Itamar holds a Master of Arts in Photography from the Royal College of Art, London and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Photography from Bezalel Academy of Arts and Design, Jerusalem. He has recently held solo exhibitions at Pulse (Miami), Volta (New York), Ramat-Gan Museum of Art (Israel), Gitler &___ Gallery (New York), Fireworks Gallery (Australia) and Litvak Contemporary (Tel Aviv). His work resides in private and public collections worldwide including the JP Morgan Chase Art Collection, Estee Lauder, Lauren and Mitchell Presser Photography Collections and American Embassies Collection.
Courtney holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts (Dance Performance) with Honours from QUT and is training to become a Gaga Teacher with Ohad Naharin Batsheva Dance Company (Israel) supported by the Queensland Government through Arts Queensland and the Ian Potter Cultural Trust. In 2018 Scheu presented and performed solo, Belly Full of Bees, at Beit Tami Theatre Tel Aviv, through Tami Dance Company/Nimrod Freed. In London, Courtney presented work in the Emerge Festival 2017 by C-12 Dance Theatre and Resolution 2018 at The Place. Courtney also performed as Rainbow in Nick Cave’s The Heard at the Gallery of Modern Art (Brisbane) in 2016.
