Open Air: Yirinda

From sweeping hilltops to hidden lakes and spectacular ocean-scapes, Open Air is a beautiful collision of music, people and place. Featuring some of Australia’s most loved musicians in intimate outdoor concerts set against the Sunshine Coast’s spectacular natural environment, the Open Air experience is not to be missed.

Immerse yourself in the sublime with the ancient and contemporary sounds of Yirinda at Lake Baroon.

Butchulla Songman Fred Leone and internationally acclaimed composer/multi-instrumentalist Samuel Pankhurst draw on the ancient stories of Fred’s people, blending Aboriginal language with contemporary, acoustic and improvisatory sounds that sidestep all expectations.

Invoking the sounds of thousands of generations of story and culture, Yirinda’s inimitable blend of ancient Aboriginal language and sublime improvisation pierces to the core.

Often described as ‘holographic’ and at all times visual, the duo’s sound is a result of their willingness to be guided by the ancient and the present - Yirinda means ‘now' in the Butchulla language of K’gari (Fraser Island).

Bring your own picnic rug to sit on and please remember to wear warm clothing as it gets cold once the sun sets.
